Introduction to Suadharsan Kriya

Art of Living
Breathing is the first act of life. Within the breath is the unexplored secret of lifeSudarshan Kriya is a powerful yet simple rhythmic breathing technique that incorporates specific natural rhythms of the breath, harmonizing the body, mind and emotions.

The technique eliminates stress, fatigue and negative emotions such as anger, frustration and depression, leaving the mind calm, focused and the body energized, completely relaxed.

Breath is the main source of prana - the vital life-force energy. Prana is the very basis of health and well-being for both, the body and mind. When the prana is high, one feels healthy, alert and energetic. Sudarshan Kriya elevates the prana by flushing out more than 90% toxins and accumulated stress, everyday.
Sudarshan Kriya practitioners have reported better immunity, increased stamina and sustained high-energy levels.
Daily dose of Sudarshan Kriya can considerably reduce visit to the doctor, keeping you on a healthy, happy note, lifelong!

Sri Sri on Sudarshan Kriya

Nature is replete with various rhythms and cycles - day follows night, night follows day, seasons come and go. Similarly, there are biological rhythms to our bodies, minds and emotions. When these rhythms are in sync, we feel a sense of harmony and well-being. When stress or illness throws them out of order, we experience discomfort and discontent and feel upset and unhappy.

The Sudarshan Kriya incorporates specific natural rhythms of breath which harmonize the rhythms of the body and emotions and bring them in tune with the rhythms of nature. The breath connects the body and mind. Just as emotions affect our patterns of breathing, we can bring about changes in our mental and behavioral patterns by altering the rhythms of our breath. It flushes our anger, anxiety and worry; leaving the mind completely relaxed and energized.

This single technique has benefited thousands of people across all walks of life – corporate executives, trauma affected, underprivileged, children and homemakers.
“I was already teaching meditation and yoga. But I felt there was something that was lacking. Though people do their spiritual practices, their life is in compartments. They do their prayers, meditation and spiritual practices, but when they come out in life, they are very different people. So, I was thinking how we can bridge this gap - between inner silence and outer expression of life.
During a period of silence, the Sudarshan Kriya came like an inspiration. After I came out of the silence, I started teaching whatever I knew and people had great experiences."
"After Sudarshan kriya, many people feel so pure and so clear, so complete, because the consciousness, which was stuck in the matter, material, which is foreign to itself, got released from that and came back to its home. That is the sense of purity, feeling of purity."
"We need to do a cleansing process within ourselves. In sleep we get rid of fatigue, but the deeper stresses remain in our body. Sudarshan Kriya cleanses the system from the inside. The breath has a great secret to offer."

Mental Depression & Sudarshan Kriya: Recent Research
by D.P. Agrawal

In India both National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi have been carrying out research on these practices and their effects. Clinical trials at NIMHANS, Bangalore, showed that regular practise of Sudarshan Kriya Yoga (SKY) – a set of breathing techniques promoted by Sri Sri Ravishankar, founder of the Bangalore based Art of Living Foundation – reduces symptoms of mental depression. NIMHANS researchers claim that SKY is as effective as the established anti-depressant drug imipramine, a tricyclic antidepressant, (Depsonil, Antidep). All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, has reported that SKYand Pranayam sessions reduced serum cortisol levels – an indicator of stress – in the blood more effectively than listening to classical music. They are also employing SKY to cure alcohol and tobacco addiction.

kriya...

Sri Sri -- When somebody is anxious, they are unaware of time, of every moment passing, isn’t it? This is because the whole focus is on the event, on the happening, rather than just on the time. When someone is waiting for the train to come, they are waiting. So the whole focus is on that object rather than on the time. Just a little shift in this, a little tilt in this, is when you are waiting for the doctor or waiting for something else, then you are just waiting for the moment. Are you getting what I am saying? Each moment is in the time. That is yoga. Mind is in the moment, waiting for nothing, but it is waiting. Are you getting this? It adds a different quality to the consciousness. This aspect sharpens the mind, the intellect, and the heart. This is yoga of action.
What is Kriya yoga? It comprises three parts. He says tapaha. Tapas is endurance, acceptance. Say, you are travelling in a plane; it is a long-distance flight. You are sitting and your legs are getting numb. You are tired but you keep sitting. You feel heavy but still you keep sitting. You cannot say, “Oh! I cannot sit now. I am going to get out of the plane”. No way! If the plane is delayed, held up in the air, you have to be there. There is no choice. Now, if you had a choice, then you would not sit for eight hours. Like that in one place. No way. But in a plane, you sit, accepting it willingly, without grumbling. That is tapaha.

If your are unhappy you better check if one or all of these are lacking: Tapa (penance), Vairagya (dispassion), Sharanagati (surrender).
  • Tapas is agreeing with the moment, total acceptance of pleasant or unpleasant situations.
  • Vairagya means I want nothing and I am nothing.
  • Sharanagati is "I am here for You, for Your joy."
If you are grumbling then these are lacking, because when you accept the situation you cannot grumble; when you take it as Tapa you will not grumble; when you come from a state dispassion ("I don't want anything") you don't grumble; and if you are surrendered you will have no complaints.
All these three (Tapas, Vairagya and surrender) purify your mind and uplift you in joy.
If you don? do it willingly you will do it in desperation. First you say, "Nothing can be done." Then in anger and desperation you say, "I give up, I want nothing, I have no choice, to hell with it!"

"yogi and mystic, sadhguru, looks at what kriya yoga means, and what it takes to walk this path and explore the very mechanics of the life process"

Sadhguru: fundamentally, kriya means internal action. When you do inner action, it does not involve the body and the mind because both the body and the mind are still external to you. When you have a certain mastery to do action with your energy, then it is a kriya.

The self-controlled person, moving among objects, with his senses free from attachment and malevolence and brought under his own control, attains tranquility.
~ bhagavad gita ii.64

"once we start working with the energy in a certain way, it has a different kind of depth to life"

"if we want the kriya to be imprinted into your system in a certain way, then it needs discipline and dedication"
first process to yoga " disciplined and dedication"

"with the path of kriya you are not only seeking realization, you also want to know the mechanics of life-making"

next time i will talk  about susharsan kriya which i am practicing, and my experience with it..
its really really powerful, but thing first is needed is dedication and discipline.

research and health benefits from hatha yoga

Sorry brother and sisters and due to some exam I was not able to share my weekly post…

TRYING TO UNDERSTAND YOGA

A group of 84 classic yoga asanas taught by Lord Shiva is mentioned in several classic texts on yoga
Patanjali's Yoga Sutra (4-2nd century BC) does not mention a single asana by name, merely specifying the characteristics of a good asana. Later yoga texts however, do mention the 84 Classic Asanas and associate them with Shiva.
The Hatha Yoga Pradipika (15th century CE) specifies that of these 84, the first four are important, namely the siddhasana, padmasana, bhadrasana and simhasana.
The Hatha Ratnavali (17th century CE) is one of the few texts to attempt a listing of all the 84, although 4 out of its list do not have meaningful translations from the Sanskrit, and 21 are merely mentioned without any description. In all, 52 asanas of the Hatha Ratnavali are confirmed and described by the text itself, or other asana corpora.

The Gheranda Samhita (late 17th century CE) asserts that Shiva taught 8,400,000 asanas, out of which 84 are preeminent, and "32 are useful in the world of mortals.

1. What Is Yoga?

The word yoga, from the Sanskrit word yuj means to yoke or bind and is often interpreted as “union” or a method of discipline. A male who practices yoga is called a yogi, a female practitioner, a yogini.

2. What Does Hatha Mean?

The word hatha means willful or forceful. Hatha yoga refers to a set of physical exercises (known as asanas or postures), and sequences of asanas, designed to align your skin, muscles, and bones. The postures are also designed to open the many channels of the body—especially the main channel, the spine—so that energy can flow freely.
Hatha is also translated as ha meaning “sun” and tha meaning “moon.” This refers to the balance of masculine aspects—active, hot, sun—and feminine aspects—receptive, cool, moon—within all of us. Hatha yoga is a path toward creating balance and uniting opposites. In our physical bodies we develop a balance of strength and flexibility. We also learn to balance our effort and surrender in each pose.
Hatha yoga is a powerful tool for self-transformation. It asks us to bring our attention to our breath, which helps us to still the fluctuations of the mind and be more present in the unfolding of each moment.

Research on HATHA YOGA ...

Study suggests Hatha Yoga boosts brain function in order adults...
University of Illinois graduate student Neha Gothe  research ..
  • ·    A cticing hatha yoga three times a week for eight weeks improved sedentary older adults' performance on cognitive tasks that are relevant to everyday life, researchers report.
  • ·        University of Illinois graduate student Neha Gothe and her colleagues found that eight weeks of yoga classes significantly improved participants' reaction time and accuracy in tests of cognitive function. Gothe is now a professor of kinesiology at Wayne State University in Detroit.
  • ·        Hatha yoga requires focused effort in moving through the poses, controlling the body and breathing at a steady rate," Gothe said. "It is possible that this focus on one's body, mind and breath during yoga practice may have generalized to situations outside of the yoga classes, resulting in an improved ability to sustain attention."
·        Hatha is a general category that includes most yoga styles. It is an old system that includes the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (yoga breathing exercises), which help bring peace to the mind and body, preparing the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation.

Thoppukaranam super brain..

Yoga And Meditation Some Exercise are best thing to boost your body and mind...
Some practice like pulling of your right ear with left hand and left ear with right hand can energies your brain. In India it is  know as "Thoppukaranam"   is a Tamil (a South Indian Language) word, which means to hold the ears. From ancient times this practice has been evident in the Indian Culture, where people practice this in front of the image of the Lord Ganapathy (a symbolic representation of supreme energy in the form of an elephant which actually signifies wisdom. Thus also connected with the brain. "Ga"  representing Intelligence, "Na" representing Wisdom and "Pathy" representing - Master, so ideally meaning the Master of Wisdom and Intelligence). It is said that this practice is a request to stimulate the wisdom and intelligence. It is also said that the practice has been evident in the ancient Gurukula Systems, where the seers asked their pupils to practice this technique in order to stimulate and energize the brain and its functions. The practice of ear piercing too has its real reasons being the stimulation of the pituitary and pineal glands, due to the effect of the pressure in the ear lobes.

Dr. Paul nogier (the father of auricular medicine:
Ear acupuncture and bio-energetic testing)
His research revealed that the outer ear—known as the auricle, is energetically connected to the entire body: a “micro-system.”  This means the ear functions as a tiny microcosm of living energy—a comprehensive acupuncture system the correlates and connects to the entire body.  Dr. Nogier discovered that the electrical conductivity of the skin of the ear changes in very specific areas when there is a disturbance in the body.
What is most fascinating is that there are no direct nerve connections between the ear and the rest of the body.  But, the nerves from the ear do connect to reflex centers in the brain, which send neurological reflex messages to the spinal cord, and then to nerves connecting to the corresponding part of the body.  Dr. Nogier mapped zones of every structure of the human body on the outer ear — the auricle.  He presented it in fFrancein 1957, and his work spread throughout Europe and china.

OUR BRAIN

It is your state of mind and way you think determine your nature.....  (brain and mind)
The human brain has been called the most complex object in the known universe, and in many ways it's the final frontier of science. A hundred billion neurons, close to a quadrillion connections between them, and we don't even fully understand a single cell.

Every thought and action is controlled by the brain — the body’s most complex organ. The brain is divided into functional units with particular tasks, like processing visual information or responding to fearful experiences. Each of these units is made up of brain cells that work together. These cells also form connections with cells in other functional units, creating communication routes for brain signals. On-going studies in animals and people are helping scientists recognize the many different types of brain cells and the roles they play. In addition, imaging technology is helping map brain regions responsible for specific functions and behaviors.
The connectivity of the neurons in the brain and in particular the cerebral cortex is more developed than in other non-human primates. Still, the actual different regions of the brain are the same ones in the human brain and the brain of other non-human primates; for example a rat's brain consists of the same components as this of a human, however, the neural connections in a human brain are more developed. The above said (developed neural connectivity has been linked with enhanced intelligence)

.

Regions of the lateral surface of the brain, and particularly the lobes of the forebrain:
Beige – frontal lobe
Blue – parietal lobe
Green – occipital lobe
Pink – temporal lobe

The cerebral cortex is nearly symmetrical with left and right hemispheres that are approximate mirror images of each other. Each hemisphere is conventionally divided intofour "lobes", the frontal lobeparietal lobeoccipital lobe, and temporal lobe. With one exception, this division into lobes does not derive from the structure of the cortex itself, though: the lobes are named after the bones of the skull that overlie them, the frontal bone, parietal bone, temporal bone, and occipital bone. The borders between lobes lie beneath the sutures that link the skull bones together. The exception is the border between the frontal and parietal lobes, which lies behind the corresponding suture; instead it follows the anatomical boundary of the central sulcus, a deep fold in the brain's structure where the primary somatosensory cortex and primary motor cortex meet.
Because of the arbitrary way most of the borders between lobes are demarcated, they have little functional significance. With the exception of the occipital lobe, a small area that is entirely dedicated to vision, each of the lobes contains a variety of brain areas that have minimal functional relationship. The parietal lobe, for example, contains areas involved in somatosensation, hearing, language, attention, and spatial cognition. In spite of this heterogeneity, the division into lobes is convenient for reference. The main functions of the frontal lobe are to control attention, abstract thinking, behavior, problem solving tasks, and physical reactions and personality.[11] The occipital lobe is the smallest lobe; its main functions are visual reception, visual-spatial processing, movement, and color recognition. The temporal lobe controls auditory and visual memories, language, and some hearing and speech.
